Why choose Miniature Cattle?
The main reason we choose to have mini cows is because of their sweet dispositions. Their small size makes it easier to handle them and therefore tame them, resulting in friendly, manageable cows. It's possible to handle mini cows without having all of the cattle equipment necessary with standard breeds. They are easier on the land and on your fencing. You'll probably save some money after the initial investment with mini cows. You need just 1/2 - 1 acre of pasture for each animal. They’re about 25 – 30% more feed efficient than standard sized cows. Typically, you’ll only need a third of the amount of feed for each one compared to their larger counterparts.
Size of Miniature Cows
Miniature cows can be classified in categories that depend on their height at the hip.
Midsize miniature cows measure from 43 to 51 inches at the hip.
Standard miniature cows range from 35 to 42 inches.
Micro-miniature cows are all less than 35 inches in height at the hip.
So generally, miniature cattle breeds range anywhere from 1/2 to 1/3 the size of normal cattle.
